How we make it -- Handmade in the French savon de Marseille style, our organic castile liquid soap is 100% natural, preservative-free and naturally glycerined. It contains a nourishing base of organic extra virgin olive oil (Crete, Greece), organic cold pressed coconut oil (Thailand) and liquid shea butter. **Contrary to bad press and misadvertising from the FCMG and big pharmaceuticals, pure liquid soap is not drying at all. When oil reacts with alkaline, glycerin is formed. Naturally forming glycerin helps retain moisture in our skin. But this is removed in commercial manufacturing, for resale, resulting in soap that is drying or contain more chemicals for moisturising effect.
History -- Quite simply the best soaps in the world, Savon de Marseille and Castile soap are 2 popular European natural soap that have been made for centuries before modern-day pharmaceuticals were born. They may be region specific, but are essentially made with only 1 key ingredient - saponified olive oil. In today's mass market, most Marseille and Castile soap are made with very little olive oil (cost) and contain mostly cheap vegetable oils such as palm oil and sunflower oil and sometimes hardening chemicals as well.
Fact -- The real savon de Marseille and Castile soap are made without detergents and synthetics. In some modern versions, a small percentage of "fatty" oil is allowed, so the soap will produce small bubbles for lathering.
This product is suitable for adults, children, pets and all skin types, including sensitive and eczema skin. Please feel free to ask us for a recommendation if you are unsure which fragrance to choose for your children or pets.
**Quick tip -- true liquid soap is multi-functional. When we travel, we transfer the liquid soap into a smaller bottle and use it as a hands & body wash + shampoo + laundry detergent.
