UMF™ is a quality trademark and certification. The UMF™ grading system appraises natural markers found in Manuka honey.

What's the difference between
 MGO and UMF™?
MGO is a simpler test that is independently tested and certified in New Zealand. A standardised measure of methyglyoxal content in manuka honey, indicating its quality.

UMF™ is a complete New Zealand license to certify the manuka honey is pure, true-to-label and authentic. This also explains why UMF certified manuka tends to be more expensive. The honey goes through an advanced grading and certification system that measures three chemical compounds in manuka – dihydroxyacetone (DHA), leptosperin, and methylglyoxal, indicating purity and quality.

New Zealand Manuka Honey has a distinctive, rich flavour and is world renowned for its unique properties.

Thanks to its antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, manuka honey can be used to help treat wounds, improve your oral health, soothe a sore throat and treat ulcers and acne. Unless you are buying manuka honey for external application, UMF10+ is good enough for general medicinal use.

What is the difference between regular honey and Manuka honey?
All honey have some level of antibacterial properties. The main difference between these two types of honey is derived from the bees that feed on the manuka plant native to New Zealand, whereas normal honey is a sweet, sticky yellowish-brown fluid made by bees and other insects from the nectar collected from flowers and other plants.

In New Zealand, there are several other types of bush honey derived from bees feeding from specific native plants, such as Kamahi, Rata, Rewarereware, Pohutukawa. These are as fine in terms of quality as Manuka, but less famous outside the country.
