Hello, I'm Katherine - founder, product developer and the nose behind En.Vie Aromatique. My journey started at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in France, where I followed my nose and trained in perfumery and cosmetic formulation.
I enjoy exploring new accords and researching raw ingredients. But it wasn’t perfume per se that interested me but traditional natural ingredients that were made into products that we use everyday. Unknown to many, this is an industry steeped in centuries of traditions from our great grandparents times.
My French teachers have spent their lives in the perfume and cosmetic industry. The details of knowledge they were able to impart was nothing short of mind blowing. Techniques in oil blending, fragrance extraction, holistic medicine and traditional soap-making are all derived from decades of experience and production, and in some cases dated back to the 19th century. Many of these traditions have been lost to the ugly commercialisation of big brands and the mass market.
En.Vie was started in 2014 after I returned from France. I wanted to create products with good old-fashioned values, products that genuinely work. Ingredients are very important to me when formulating natural fragrance and cosmetics -sources must be pure, ethical and genuinely sustainable so there is longevity in supply, production and quality. We do not use palm oil, organic or sustainable, as it has no health benefits at all. I source all our ingredients personally from farms and distilleries in Europe, New Zealand and Australia, where the highest ecological and organic certifications are maintained - 80% of our ingredients are certified organic by UK Soil Association, Ecocert France, BioGro NZ and ACO Australia. We have zero tolerance for animal testing in the name of science and do not support USDA Organic.
Our emphasis on simplicity and authenticity is further reflected on our product packaging. We keep exterior simple and wastage minimal, so details and benefits stay within the products. We use glass jars/bottles and dispense heavier liquids in recyclable PET #1 (thermal recycling, the easiest and most widely implemented recycling system).
